In the post today - a large package from Germany from Dirk Frohlich in Dresden who used to make exquisite hand bound assembled books back in the 90's. This one appears to be a selection of loose pages from that BUCHLABOR series- either ones that were not used or just late arriving? No info. with the package just a card that says "DANKE" in rubber stampings. Other participants include Giovanni Strada, Georg Lipinsky, Vittore Baroni, Diane Bertrand and Patricia Collins. All pages from 1996 to 2006.

Vittore Baroni/A.1. - Hat

I sent Vittore a foot shaped postcard recently and he asked for some more to add to a hat he was making for George Maniunas. A parade of hats was organised by VB to celebrate Fluxus and George as part of a day of performance etc. in Italy, but I forget just where. I will try and find out. Vittore sent me this nice documentation of the hat. Further documentation is promised. Carlos Botana made the postcard in the foreground. I can't quite see the others.

The Sorting Office - Northwich

WE met Treena at the sorting office this morning to put up some mail art in the empty cabinets. Treena was already there with all her polish and dusters and cleaning the glass. It was surprising how much mail needs to fill up six quite small cabinets successfully. We barely had enough and I presumed we'd have loads left over to take home again. I took a selection of the "Handy Postcard Exchange" work and stuck them up in four cabinets. Thankfully Hazel helped or else it would have taken hours! A steady stream of people came in which was encouraging and one hopes that some will take the time to look at the postcards and envelopes etc. whilst waiting for their parcels or whatever. Not sure how long they will be up for. Treena is curator and so I leave that side of it to her. Maybe put up some more mail from the archive in the future if all goes well. Playing it very much by ear at the moment.

Mickey Mouse Shed

Mickey Mouse Shed detail. Shot around a corner as a tree is in the way. The shed is in rather a sorry state now and suffered from the effects of the weather. Hazel did this project some years ago and the outside of the shed is covered in the mail art she recieved. Not sure who did this bit?

Keith Bates - Stampsheet/Postcard

In a nice envelope yesterday from Keith Bates who says he's hoping for early retirement from teaching this July. Also enclosed some tickets and original ephemera, postcard (below) , pass-along sheet from Eric Langolff and call for mail art show in Finland on the theme of "What Time Is It?"

Also enclosed is a nice "Mailart Heritage" blue plaque print for me and a "Teacher's Tale" which explains his current situation regarding his employment and his hopes for the future. Keith says- " Mail Art is also having to adapt and change, and it is no longer essential for Mail Art to be a wholly snailmail experiance. Indeed, it is paradoxical that many Mail Art projects culminate with website or blog documentation, yet contributions are still only accepted via traditional mail. It is time for the email attachment, emailart, to be welcomed as warmly."
